Description
Drive In City 3D
City Drive 3D is a fun and addictive game where you have to park all of your vehicles in the parking zones without hitting any other cars. There are many different levels to play through and each one has their own unique challenges.
Choose a car from a wide range of cars with a variety of great features, and take on a huge city map full of traffic, obstacles, and other drivers. Use the controls in the lower left hand corner of your screen to drive and accelerate your vehicle, and practice some cool manoeuvres and drifts on your way around.
The graphics in this game are pretty good, especially for a free online game. They look very realistic and you can even see the reflections of other cars, buildings, and pedestrians in the water. It's just a shame that the movement lags so much, as it makes driving very difficult and frustrating.
Driver Renegade is an average title overall, although its open setting and smooth driving mechanics are enough to make this a decent purchase for fans of the Driver franchise. Unfortunately, this also means that the games run-of-the-mill racing objectives fail to exploit the underlying driving dynamics and leave you feeling unsatisfied by your progress in Story Mode and Career.
Despite being an impressively large recreation of New York City, the environment is let down by a lack of life and some awkward use of stereoscopic 3D. The polygonal map is awash with empty streets, and there's a noticeable lack of traffic; it feels like a hollow and barren version of a console game's open world.
While there are occasional moments when you get embroiled in a compelling car chase through the city, it's not long before your experience becomes repetitive and cliched, and it isn't until you've seen these missions many times that it really gets boring.
There are several modes available in this game, from Story Mode to the more competitive Career Mode; however, there are no further significant options beyond that. This is a shame, as there's a decent StreetPass feature and the ability to compare your scores with other players, but it's unlikely that these are going to inspire much replay time.
It's all very well playing a game of arcade racing in this style, but the real fun lies in getting your own stunts on the track. You can do this by using a range of ramps and overpasses that are scattered throughout the city, and they give you a wide variety of ways to perform tricks and stunts.
