Description
Poki Games and the BattleBots
The BattleBots is a television show that features robot competitions. The show is hosted by television personality Bill Nye, who has an engineering degree from Cornell University and a fascination with high energy science. He provides technical commentary for the show. His favorite BattleBot is the red lady-bug sandbox, which is designed by a 14-year-old girl.
BattleBots are designed to do damage and are highly aggressive. Many common designs center on a spinning weapon that can cut through a rival's armor. Some also incorporate a device that can launch an opposing robot 20 feet in the air. These robots are often referred to as flipper robots or spinner robots.
Robots compete in three-minute matches. Each robot has five points, and judges score the robots in the categories of Aggression, Control, and Damage. The judges award points based on the robot's ability to attack and defend itself, as well as how well it responds to hazards. Depending on the rules of the game, the winning robot can be anywhere from a small to a large robot.
Judges can inspect a Combatant's robot after the match to determine which robot has been damaged. If the judges determine that a robot has been damaged, they will inform the Stage Manager or other designated official. Judges may examine the robots, but do not touch them. The driver or other designated team member will handle the robot. The opposing team will also be present during the inspection process.
